Cardiology

In our veterinary hospital, we carry out cardiological examinations of dogs and cats with the help of modern diagnostics and expert guidance of a doctor who is enrolled in the final phase of the international ESAVS program (European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies) in the field of veterinary cardiology. ESAVS education represents the highest European standard of professional development for veterinarians and a guarantee of continuous monitoring of the latest scientific knowledge and diagnostic methods. Thanks to this approach, our patients receive an accurate diagnosis and the most appropriate treatment, in accordance with the current guidelines of modern veterinary cardiology.

The cardiac examination includes a detailed assessment of the functioning of the heart and respiratory system, as well as, if necessary, the following:

  • a clinical examination and auscultation of the heart and lungs,
  • ultrasound of the heart (Color Doppler),
  • blood pressure measurement,
  • chest X-rays and
  • laboratory blood tests.

Heart disease in pets often develops gradually and without clear signs at the initial stage. Possible symptoms are coughing, shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue without much exertion, fainting or loss of appetite. If you notice any of these changes, a cardiological examination of the dog or cat helps to identify the cause and start treatment on time.

Cardiology includes the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as:

  • congestive heart failure,
  • cardiomyopathy,
  • congenital heart anomalies,
  • heart valve diseases and
  • arrhythmias.

Early diagnosis and targeted treatment allow for disease control, reduction of symptoms and better quality of life for pets with cardiac problems.

When should a specialist cardiac examination be performed?

It is recommended in the following cases:

  • if a murmur or irregular heart rhythm is heard during a regular examination,
  • in dogs and cats over seven years of age,
  • if the pet is on long-term corticosteroid therapy,
  • in animals with endocrinological diseases (such as diabetes or thyroid disease),
  • prior to planned general anesthesia, especially in older pets,
  • and in breeding individuals before mating.

Any type of heart disease requires precise diagnosis and carefully planned treatment. Our team uses modern methods and expertise to identify cardiac changes in a timely manner and select a therapy tailored to each pet. Our goal is to keep your pet’s heart healthy, extend their lifespan, and allow them to enjoy everyday activities for as long as possible without difficulty.
