When is a caesarean section in dogs and cats necessary?

Most female dogs and cats can give birth naturally, but in some cases, a surgical delivery is required for the safety of the mother and her puppies/kittens.
The most common reasons for this are:

  • prolonged labour without progress,
  • large or abnormally positioned puppies or kittens,
  • maternal exhaustion,
  • breed predisposition (bulldogs, chihuahuas, Persian cats).

During the procedure, we use safe anaesthesia and proven surgical protocols to ensure the best possible care for both the mother and her young.

Reproductive and puppy/kitten care counselling

In our veterinary hospital, we provide advice on reproduction and care for puppies and kittens – from pregnancy preparation to postpartum care.
Our goal is to help each phase go as smoothly as possible, so that the mother and her young get the care they need to start their lives in a healthy way.
